Ingmar Relling for Ekornes “Svane” Teak Daybed, 1960s

A beautifully preserved mid-century modern Svane daybed by Ingmar Relling and Haldor Vik for Ekornes, Norway, dating to the 1960s.

Crafted from solid teak, the daybed pairs a beautifully restrained Scandinavian frame with its original deep indigo-blue upholstery. The fabric is exceptional - a richly textured, looped weave that adds depth and dimension while remaining remarkably well preserved more than sixty years later.

Designed with both form and function in mind, the seat lifts to reveal a suspended canvas storage compartment beneath for blankets and bedding. Remove the back cushions and the daybed converts to a generous sleeping surface, making it equally suited to a living room, office or guest space.

The solid teak frame has been carefully cleaned and conditioned while retaining its original finish and character. Most notably, the original upholstery is in exceptional condition, showing no visible signs of wear - an extraordinary survival for a piece dating to the 1960s. The interior canvas storage is also intact and functional.
